Gustave ALEF was born on Independence Day, 1922 in the Bronx, New York. He fought in Europe for the US Army during World War Two. He was a Professor Emeritus of History, serving at the University of Oregon from 1956 until he retired in 1987. He died at seventy-three in Eugene, Oregon on January 3, 1996 of lung disease.
