ALEF PEOPLE - GEORGE ALEFANTES - OPERATING SYSTEMS

(Edited and formatted by George ALEFantes)

In his early work with minicomputers, he worked in VMS on the VAX, UNIX on the DEC PDP-11 and Altos, and others. But the majority of his experience has been in microcomputers, beginning with CP/M, created by the largely forgotten Gary Kildall, murdered in 1994 in a Monterey, California bar, whose vital contributions to the industry were inversely proportional to Bill Gates's fortunes and successes.

Like everyone, George adopted Microsoft's MS-DOS and IBM's IBM-DOS, written by Microsoft, as they appeared on the scene, moving from versions 2.0 through 6.2. He supported early Apple Operating Systems, IBM's graphical Operating System, OS/2, also written by Microsoft, UNIX varieties, later Macintosh Operating System, and Windows beginning with version 3.0, then 3.1, Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, XP, and 2003.

He neither uses nor endorses Windows Vista, the culmination of Microsoft's betrayal of its loyal users and developers. But is instead deeply interested in and excited about Linux, particularly Linux Mint, Mepis Linux, and PCLinuxOS, combined with the legacy use of Windows XP until it eventually fades into computer history. He sees them not only as Vista replacements but as genuine, vast improvements with a much brighter view of the future to look forward to: A better vista?

With all Linux versions and vast amounts of software available for free, all source code open and available for anyone's use, precluding the ability to embed nefarious code and functionality, and generous and intelligent people across the globe contributing to all aspects of its success, it is truly globalism without government, a refreshing and reassuring departure from the antithetical state of huge portions of the population laboring under undue control by a large private-sector corporation operating like a fascist government.
